Installing Snappy Fax Printer Driver - Manual Installation Windows XP


Although rare, there are situations where Snappy Fax cannot automatically install its printer/fax driver under Windos XP. In these situations you can install the driver manually by following these step-by-step instructions. Each step is accompanied by a screen shot, make sure that you check only the radio buttons and check boxes indicated on the screen shots. These instructions apply only to Windows XP (both Home and Professional). While these step-by-step instructions do not specifically apply to other versions of Windows, the procedure is very similar and these instructions should assist you in the installation under Windows 2000 or Windows NT. These instructions specifically do not apply to Windows 95, 98 or ME and should not be used for those versions of Windows.

Step 1 - Click the "Start" button on the Windows task bar, go to Control panel and double click on 'Printers and Faxes'

Step 2 - Select File | Add Printer from the menu

Step 3 -The add printer wizard will appear... Click the "Next" button

Step 4 -Check the "Local printer attached to this computer" radio button. DO NOT check the checkbox "Automatically detect and install my Plug and play driver". Click the Next button.

Step 5 - On the Select a printer port page, Check the "Use the following port" radio button and drop the combo box down and select "PRINTFAX: (TPS Fax Port Monitor)", then click the Next button

Step 6 -click the "Have Disk..." button

Step 7 -Click the Browse... button

Click the Browse... button

Step 8 -Browse to the "c:\program files\snappy fax 2000 version 3\driver" folder, select "OEMSetup.inf" and click the Open button. NOTE: if you installed snappy fax to a different folder browse to the "driver" folder beneath the folder you installed it to.

Select OEMSetup.inf, click Open

Step 9 -Under the manufacturer's listing select !OEM, under the Printers listing, select "TPS APW Fax Printer" and click the Next button.

Step 10 -Check the "Replace Existing driver" radio button and click the Next button

Check Replace existing drive and click the Next button

Step 11 -In the printer name box type in "APF Fax Printer" (without the quotes),
Do not accept the default text in this box, you must type in "APF Fax Printer".
Check the "No" radio button, you do not want this to be the default printer. Click the Next button.

Type APF Fax Printer in the printer name box, check the No radio button and click the Next button

Step 12 -Check "Do not share this printer" and click the Next button.

Check Do not share this printer and click the Next button

Step 13 -Check "No" and click the Next button

Check No and click the Next button

Step 14 -Click the Finish button

Click the Finish button

Step 15 -Click "Continue Anyway"

Click Continue Anyway

Step 16 -When prompted to insert CD, Click Ok. Note: this is an optional step and may not be required.

Click Ok

Step 17 -Click the Browse... button. Note: this is an optional step and may not be required.

Click the Browse... button

Step 18 -Browse to the folder "c:\program files\snappy fax 2000 version 3\driver" and select apfpdent.dll and click the Open button. If you installed snappy fax to a different location that the default installation folder, browse to the "driver" folder beneath the installation folder to find apfpdent.dll

Select apfpdent.dll and click the Open button

Step 19 -Click Ok

Click Ok

The wizard should now finish and you should see an icon for "APF Fax Printer" in the Printers Window.

The APF Fax Printer has now been installed
