You only need the fax server software if you need to:

 

1.  Support multiple modems/fax lines

 

OR

 

2.  Support modemless workstations on a local area network

 

 

Note that snappy fax desktop is perfectly capable of sending and receiving faxes without the fax server, the only things the fax server offers is network support and support for multiple modems/fax lines.
